Lori Madden, Dance Instructor and Executive Director
Lori has been
providing instruction in Irish Step, Irish Social, Ceili, and Set Dance to
children of all ages as well as to adults for ten years through BRIMS. In
addition, Lori teaches Irish dance in Lynchburg, Richmond and at the Mountain
Road Fiddle Camp in West Virginia. She has performed with the Humorous Abandon
Irish dance ensemble at Floyd Fest and the Lake Eden Arts Festival and also in
the full length Irish dance productions Drowsy Maggie and Robin Hood. In 2003,
Lori served as Irish dance consultant for the Paul Wagner film, Angels. As
Administrative Director, Lori in charge of all bookings, fundraising, and public
relations for BRIMS.
Alex Caton, Fiddle, Guitar, Trad Ensemble, and Trad Scoil Instructor
Alex first put
hand to bow at the age of five and continued her studies in violin through
college. Since then she has dedicated her life to passing on the tradition
of Irish fiddle and has taught privately for 12 years. Alex founded and is the
director of the Mountain Road Fiddle Camp, currently in its fifth year, in
Mingo, WV. She has also been involved with BRIMS as a teacher and board member
for several years. When not teaching or planning for fiddle camp, Alex
plays Irish and Old Time music across the country and the globe as a solo
artist. She also loves playing with Odd Legged Jenny, with partners Pat Egan and
Sabra Guzman, and also gypsy music with various musicians. In addition she sings
and performs on guitar, banjo and bass.
Mimi Vidaver, Dance, Flute, Tin Whistle and Trad Ensemble Instructor
Mimi Vidaver
is an experienced teacher and performer of Irish traditional music and dance.
She has studied dance at the O'Rourke-Tighe School and under Peggy McTaggert in
Cork, Ireland. Her flute playing is influenced by the music of East Galway and
her time spent in Cork. She has taught all ages and levels in a variety of
settings, including Carlow College in Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon
University's Dancer's Symposium. For the past four years, she has been a staff
member at the Windfall School of Dance and the United Arts Academy of Dance in
Bloomington, Indiana. Mimi has also studied and collaborated intensively with
Cape Breton step dancer Malke Rosenfeld.
Marina Madden,
Irish Step Dance Instructor
Marina has been Irish step
dancing since the age of four and performing since she was six. Marina has been
an apprentice teacher with BRIMS for 2 years. She has studied Irish dance
extensively with Matthew Olwell and Emily Oleson, and at Augusta Heritage Irish
Week with Kara Butler and Danny Golden.
Stu James, Irish Guitar Accompaniment
Stu
has been playing traditional music in one form or another since his Mom brought
home a piano when he was 15. He currently plays rhythm guitar and mandolin in
the local
Charlottesville
band, King Golden Banshee. Stu has had the pleasure of studying Irish
Traditional music with Eamon O’Leary, Angelina Carberry and John Doyle at
Swannanoa.
Bill Kittrell,
Scottish Fiddle
Bill has been
playing violin since he was 5 and Scottish fiddle for the past 15 years. His
fiddling explores the music of the “Golden Age” of Scottish fiddling during the
late 18th and early 19th century when Neil Gow, William Marshall and Robert
Burns wrote and made famous many of the tunes and lyrics that we still enjoy
today. Bill is an instructor at the Jink and Diddle School of Scottish Fiddling
in Valle Crucis, NC, and has played various venues in Scotland and the Eastern
U.S. When
