The Blue Ridge Irish Music School (BRIMS) presents legendary uilleann piper Paddy Keenan on Saturday, October 29th, 7:00 p.m. at Cville Coffee in Charlottesville. Paddy Keenan is a world-renowned master of the Irish uilleann pipes as well as a founding member of the influential Bothy Band. The Bothy Band is credited for bringing Irish traditional music to a renewed world-wide popularity. The Bothy Band forever changed the face of Irish traditional music, merging a driving rhythm section with traditional Irish tunes in ways that had never been heard before. Paddy was one of the band's founding members, and his virtuosity on the pipes combined with the ferocity of his playing was a driving force behind the band’s popularity.
Keenan grew up in a musical family in county Meath and learned piping from his father John Keenan.
Paddy's flowing, open-fingered style of playing can be traced directly from the style of such great traveling pipers as Johnny Doran; both Paddy's father and grandfather played in the same style.
Tickets are $17
Doors open at 6:00PM
