The Truckley Howl:
Traditional Music from Ireland
7:00 p.m. (Doors open at 6:00 p.m.)
The Truckley Howl is: concertina player Mairead Hurley with John Blake on flute & guitar and Nathan Gourley on fiddle & guitar.
The Truckley Howl are a new three-piece Irish traditional band. Blending the rich sounds of fiddle, flute, concertina and guitar, these three masters of their instruments play lively melodies which are taken from the deep well of traditional music of Ireland.
~Speaking of the well, Seamus Ennis knows far more about this than even the old folk-lordie-lordies themselves…
“You know, there’s an awful lot to be said about this Irish traditional folk music and folklore. Because first of all, you have to learn it. And first you must learn the talk. And then you must learn the grip. And after that, you must learn the truckley-howl. And then you have the whole lot, only just to keep on practicing it.” ~Seamus Ennis, Uilleann Piper & Folklorist, 1919-1982
The Truckley Howl have been practicing for (at least) 21 years each, and will be performing for your auditory pleasure on Tuesday, March 15th at 7:00 p.m. at Cville Coffee in Charlottesville!
